North End

A Historic Detroit Neighborhood

Business Directory

Many of Motown’s most notable artists hailed from Detroit’s North End neighborhood, including Smokey Robinson, Diana Ross, the Four Tops and Aretha Franklin. Originally a part of Hamtramck, North End was annexed by the City of Detroit in 1891, and served as the cultural hub for African Americans in the 40s, 50s, and 60s. Today the North End’s proximity to the northern-most station of the QLINE, major attractions, employment centers and educational institutions make it one of Detroit’s up-and-coming neighborhoods.
